When should we choose two sets of slitter knives with different thickness?

When the thickness range of the coil to be cut is too large, or the min. strip width is narrow, it is appropriate to choose two sets of slitter knives with different thicknesses. Thick knives have better strength and are suitable for cutting thick materials, while narrow knives can make the min. strip width narrower. The software can adapt to the use of several sets of slitter knives with different thicknesses. For example, for the sheet material with thickness between 2 and 6mm, the thickness of the knife can be divided into two groups of 5mm and 10mm. For thin coils with thickness between 0.2 and 2mm. The thickness of the knife can also be divided into two groups of 3mm and 5mm. But the thin knife cannot be too thin. Some companies use the knife with thickness 2.5mm in order to get the narrowest strip. Although the thickness is only 0.5mm smaller than 3mm, because the strength of the knife is proportional to the 4th power of the thickness, the strength of the knife is 50% smaller. The strength of the knife is insufficient, which often cannot slit coils successfully. In this case, the two blades can be combined to increase the strength (refer to figure 1). But at that time, the difference between their outer diameter cannot exceed 3μm, otherwise it will create marks on the surface of the strip.
