Roll shear knives are also called slitter knives and circular blades. Their function is mainly to cut wider coils into narrower strips. They are widely used for slitting non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum, stainless steel, silicon steel coils, and high-strength steel coils. According to the material and thickness of the coil, different tool materials need to be chosen for roll shear knives.

The main tool materials can be roughly divided into three categories:

The first category, tungsten carbide (TC), such as YG10, YG20, G16, G18, etc., are mainly used for cutting silicon steel and precision thin stainless steel.

The second category, high-speed steel, including powder metallurgy high-speed steel and traditional high-speed steel, such as ASP2060, SKH51 (M2, W6Mo5Cr4V2, 1.3343, SK50, KL40, G24), SKH2 (T1, W18Cr4V, 1.3355, SK51, KL41, G25) It is mainly used for trimming of non-ferrous metal coils, silicon steel sheet, and stainless steel.

The third category, high alloy tool steel, such as D2 (SKD11, 1.2379, KL31, G6), LD, etc., are mainly used for cutting copper and aluminum, thinner cold-rolled, low-carbon, and stainless steel. H13 (SKD61, 1.2344, KL11, G15) is mainly used for hot shearing and shearing of thicker coils. Our company's patented material G1 is mainly used for high-temperature shearing and shearing of automotive high-strength steel, which can significantly increase the service life of the slitting knife and has good toughness and is not easy to break.

Any tool material is the unity of toughness and wear resistance. When the tool material is chosen and the processing technology is formulated, it must be ensured that it has sufficient toughness to ensure that there will be no chipping problems in the future use, and then its wear resistance can be improved as much as possible, thereby increasing the service life of the circular knife.

In addition to the material of the circular knife, the accuracy of the tool processing, that is, the geometric tolerance is also very important. Poor geometric tolerances cannot guarantee the correct and constant clearance, and thus cannot guarantee the cutting quality of the coil. Depending on the material and thickness of the coil, different geometric tolerances need to be chosen. Generally speaking, cutting thin non-ferrous metal coils requires the parallelism and flatness of the slitting blades to reach 0.002 mm or even 0.001 mm, and the thickness tolerance is +/-0.001 mm, or even +/-0.0005 mm. But for cutters with larger outer diameter and thickness, cutting thicker coils, such as 3 mm-15 mm high-strength steel, there is no need to require too high geometric tolerances.

The selection of materials and the design of processing technology for roll shear knives require not only a scientific theoretical basis, but also rich experience in use. Contact us, we will serve you wholeheartedly!
