In the metal processing industry, because of different types of materials, different thicknesses, and different coil edge quality requirements, different setup assembly modes should be adopted.

Figure 1 shows the commonly used six different setup assembly modes.

Mode 1, it is only equipped with a bonded stripper ring beside the female knife within the female unit. It is suitable for general cutting of narrow and medium-thick sheets. The bonded stripper ring next to the female knife is used to balance the shear force. The stripper width is composed of knives, bonded stripper rings and the spacers.

Mode 2, this mode is similar to mode 1, but it is also equipped with a bonded stripper ring in the middle of the strip. It is suitable for the cutting of wide medium and thick plates. The bonded stripper ring in the middle is only used to prevent the steel plate from sagging due to its own heavy weight.

Mode 3, it is without any bonded stripper ring within the cutting unit. Male unit is composed of knives and spacers, and the female unit is all made up of the spacers. It is suitable for cutting medium and thick plates with low precision requirements.

Mode 4, it is covered with bonded stripper rings within the cutting unit. It is suitable for cutting very thin and high precision sheet materials. Male unit is formed by knives and bonded stripper rings. The female unit is all bonded stripper rings without any thin spacer in between.

Mode 5, in the entire cutting unit, whether it is in the male or female unit, most of it is covered by bonded stripper rings, but there are several thin spacers for adjusting the clearance and stripper width. This is the most common assembly mode. Although these thin spacers will create some minimal space, it will not affect product quality.

Mode 6, the male unit is composed of several knives, and the corresponding female unit is composed of spacers. Such an assembly is also called a combined knife. Please note that the OD tolerance of these slitting knives can only differ by 3μm at most, otherwise, the OD difference will cause traces on the surface of coils.
