Complete Installation Guide for Slitter Blade Shaft

Concise Version — Every Step from Inspection to Shipment

Suggested: Finished blade shaft / Workshop

Dear Valued Customer / Respected Operators:

Thank you for choosing our slitter blade shaft products. Proper installation directly affects slitting accuracy, blade life, equipment stability, and product quality. This guide walks you through our standard installation process — we install it the way we teach it.

I. Pre-Installation Preparation

1. Visual Inspection

Components laid out for inspection

Lay out all components (blades, shims, spacers) and inspect:

Component Check For Defect Action
Blades Chipped edges, rust, scratches Set aside defective ones
Shims Burrs, deformation, uneven thickness Reject or rework
Spacers Uneven end faces, scored bore Replace if damaged

Key rule: Never install defective parts — pause and replace.

2. Cleaning

Wiping components with clean cloth

Wipe all confirmed-good components with a clean cloth and kerosene/alcohol. Focus on: blade bores, shim faces, spacer surfaces. Surface must feel grit-free.

3. Vertical Positioning — Let Gravity Help

Shaft vertical, installing from top

Place the shaft vertically (flange down, locking end up). Install components from the top downward.

Benefits:

  •
  • Components slide down naturally
  •
  • Self-weight compresses each layer for tighter fit
  •
  • Easier keyway alignment
  •
  • Better rigidity after locking
  •

In short: Vertical = gravity assists you; horizontal = you fight gravity.

II. Core Assembly Steps

Step 1: Install by Calculated Sequence

Components being installed one by one

Follow the process sheet. Calculate total width first.

Sequence (flange end outward):

Spacer → Shim → Blade → Shim → Spacer → Shim → Blade → Shim → Spacer …

Install one by one — confirm each before placing the next. Spot-check width every 3–5 groups. Tick off on paper as you go.

Step 2: Unify Keyway Orientation

Keyways aligned / Marker pen marking

  •
  • With keyways: Align all to the same direction (e.g., 12 o'clock).
  •
  • Without keyways: Mark a vertical line with marker pen; keep all marks aligned.
  •

Rule: Same direction all the way through.

Step 3: If Stuck — Use Rubber Mallet Only

Tapping symmetrically with rubber mallet

  1.
  2. Check alignment and tilt
  3.
  4. Tap symmetrically with a rubber / nylon / copper mallet
  5.
  6. Rotate, tap again, push gradually
  7.

Never use a steel hammer — one blow can scrap the shaft.

Step 4: Install End Sleeve
